I'm going to Cuba in a couple months, and thinking I don't want to carry the laptop. Anyone have recommendations on refurb ipad airs or ipad pros? Not sure what I want here. I think just the ability to take and maybe adjust photos will be enough, but on the other hand, if I'm getting one of these, why not go all the way?

Anything Air 2 and later runs the current iOS. Figure out how good of a camera you want and then go from there to pick a specific model. If you are traveling I wouldn't go with a top end Pro, unless you feel relatively safe that it won't get broken or stolen. If it was me, I'd get the cheapest one that fit my basic needs.

Don’t skimp. Brand new 10.2” are $250 all the time.

The iPad physical form for taking photos while doing vacation activities...not great. If an iPhone doesn't suit, a bona fide camera and SD card reader dongle would be better, IMHO.

Love my iPad for travel. If you need to do any email, get one of those keyboard covers. Otherwise, keep it small and light!
I concur that the current iPad is the best bang/buck Apple currently sells.

Last year we spen three weeks traveling in Australia and I took my 12.9 iPad Pro with the Smart Keyboard instead of my Macbook. Worked out okay. I still took pictures with my iPhone and a small digital camera.
Didn't want to look like an idiot holding up that humongous iPad to take photos.
