OT: eBay "Buy-It-Now" option question
#1
If you do a regular auction with no Reserve (starting off at let's say $0.99) but with a Buy-It-Now price, will the Buy-It-Now option disappear as soon as someone bids?

Yes it will disappear.
Also--spammers/scammers like to do a Buy it now--with no intention of buying, so I always use But it Now with immediate payment required.

I also include some spiffs in the description if the auction reaches back up to the original Buy it now price, to encourage a bidding frenzy

That is a good tip Ken. I remembered it from a previous post of yours and intend to use it whenever I have BIN option.

I wish I could take full credit--someone here or DNF told me about it ages ago.

"Buy it Now with immediate payment required." - I assume eBay has an option for that now, do they let you require immediate payment only for a BIN buyer, but not for the auction winner if it Doesn't go w/BIN?

There's also an option now to require that the bidder have a PayPal account. Love it or hate it, I like the extra level it adds to deflect hosers that just bid and disappear.

I'm not sure of the latter (but don't think there is). With all the talk about disappearing bidders, I wonder if it would make sense for eBay to allow us to "require one to pay" when they make a bid (but only going through with it, on eBay/PayPal's part, if you win the auction)?

Yes, I think that would make eBay a Much better place to do business, if at the cost of excluding those without a credit card (who I'd guess probably also won't sign up for PayPal).

And I think Ken's "spiffs" (not "spliffs"?) might = "perks": like the free shipping or other little extras I always dangle in front of the BIN price...
