Cancel my Earthlink Account

I want to cancel my Earthlink account and after scouring their web site, and I do mean scouring, I finally found an actual phone number (1-888-327 -8454) that I can call and, in theory at least, talk to an actual human being.

Just tried it and, as luck would have it, (imagine that) they are experiencing such high call volumes that their recorded voice tells me I'll have to call back in "about" an hour.

What a crock. I'd always heard that canceling with AOL was an experience to remember. I'm wondering if canceling with Earthlink isn't going to match it?

I'm open to suggestions - anybody have a different number, or a sure fire way to get this account canceled, like, now!

I just recently cancelled my Earthlink acct. and had no real problem. If I recall correctly I called around noon EST and had a minimal wait to talk to a real person. I don't recall the number I called, I think it was the phone # on the website. They do, of course, try to convince you to stay or keep just your earthlink email address for a small monthly fee. All in all, a fairly painless experience. Your experience may have just been a case of bad timing.

I found that same number with just two clicks. Clicked "Contact Us" at the bottom of their home page, and then "More Contact Info" from that contact web page, and got to this page:
http://support.earthlink.net/contact/phone/

That number is for all phone support, not just cancelling accounts, so they really didn't know your intentions when you dialed.

They will try to talk you out of cancelling, it may take having to talk to more than one person as well. If you have DSL service the main thing to do once you get them to cancel your account is to release your line]/b] from there service or you may have a hard time getting connected with another ISP.

Thanks for the link "GDD" I looked all over their web site before finding the number I posted above and couldn't get through. Used the link you provided and had a support person on the line in no time.

PS - Now, "IF" when the appointed hour and day rolls around they actually cancel the account all will be well.
