I was just thinking about the Laserwriter LS that I bought heading to college https://lowendmac.com/1991/personal-laserwriter-ls/... that thing kept rolling along (4ppm... omg, i don't remember it being that slow) for about 12 years, then conneectivity became tough.
Just moved my oldest into his dorm room... wasn't sure he even needs a printer, but had a junky Brother that I probobly paid $50 sitting around, so put it in his room.

I had one of those. It lasted a LONG time. Built like a tank.

About 12 years ago I found a NEW one on the local CL for $10. I kept reading here that those things were built like a tank and never die. I was skeptical the thing was new but went to pick it up anyway.
The wife was home and a few other people were there to pick up other items. Husband was late, she didn’t know where things were. Husband showed up in 5 min. Another guy helped me load that box in the car. It was heavy! Got home, printer looked new. I didn’t have the right adapter, I think mattkime or someone else sent me one. The printer gave me laser scanner errors. Eventually I got it started and printed a few diagnostic pages. Page counter was 16! This thing was new indeed. I fooled around but I was never able to get it working properly. I can’t remember if I recycled it or have it away. I wish I could have kept it.

I had one and it was a TANK! But it sucked power - way too much. Dimmed the lights as it warmed up and heated the room like a PM G5.
When lasers dropped in price, I bought a canon in 2011 or so and it's still going strong. Gave the LW away and was happy to see it go.

I had one, but I replaced it with a GCC BLP Elite that lasted much longer. In fact, my dad is still using it.

I've had a couple or three brother machines, and every one either had an original issue or broke down and started spewing parts. My original HP laser printer lasted forever and always worked fine. I think I replaced it after 15 years or so because the new ones are much faster. Now using Canon three in ones that work fine.
I would like to reread the original jokey response to the question about the black and white proofs that appeared on DM in what -- 2001 or so? |
