I got an $50 gift certificate and figured I would use part of it. I shopped till my basket was going to pull my arm off. Went to checkout $50.18 but boy it was fun. I was even going to buy razors but Newt and Gillette have me fixed me up for a long time. Even Rye bread for my sammies instead of the cheap white stuff. Cool.

That reminds me, I'm supposed to get a 20 pound plus turkey for 25th Dinner.
I'll use a buggy.
If all the big ones are frozen I can't put this errand off any longer.
Thanks 'Mint, you may have saved Holiday Dinner.
(I have thawed a turkey out in the sink of warm water, I'd rather not)

25 lb would take about 5 days in the fridge. Better scoot.

Use the "Alton Brown" method, much quicker and safer!
"QUICK THAW
Place the wrapped bird in a 5-gallon cooler with a drain spout. Place the cooler in the bathtub and cover the turkey with cold water. You don't have to do the quick thaw in the tub, but it sure makes things easier. I drain and replace the water every 2 to 3 hours (to keep the water at 40°F or below) until the turkey has thawed (8 to 10 hours, depending on beginning temperature)."

I have 2 fridges and a full size freezer (and a berr bar) so I'd just stick it in the downstairs fridge until it is thawed.
But you need that bucket to brine it, so it would already be out.......

I got some turkey lunch meat in my spree. Turkey bologna, turkey ham etc. I love the stuff. Makes me feel less guilty than the real mystery meat stuff. No big turkeys though. One of my favorite meals is turkey leg at buffets out here they call Hofbrau's.

Forget the turkey, just get a Honey Baked Ham! Pre-cooked and deeeelicious. That's what will be on our table on Monday. The Costco Kirkland variety is also good, but not quite as tasty as the Original Honey Baked Ham.

I swear they're breeding turkeys with bigger, heavier bones.
I did a 24 pounder for Thanxgiving and there were no leftovers.
I cheat and put sea salt and wine in a spray bottle. :-)
No one here likes brined turkey, so I can honestly say I didn't soak it. :-)
I've also found if I put my big pizza pan (sort of an over-sized, over-wieghted cookie sheet) under the roasting pan (to catch any drippings, I dislike cleaning) , it takes almost an hour off the cooking time. I'll spray it a couple times while cooking.
I've tried extreme low temp. overnight roasting, but a bit too dry for my servees palates.
I prefer it, myself.
I use that huge flat pan under cheesecakes, too.
I have four (of 21)butternut squash left from my garden last Summer.
