Oh, the weather outside is frightful... (snow & snake pics!)
#1
Last night we got hit with a big winter storm. It was only predicted to drop a few inches in our area. By midnight last night, there was about 6-8 inches on the ground. By 9 am this morning, there was a foot or more.

It's been snowing heavily all day!

I'm including a link to pics (if anyone is interested).

Also included are pics of the rescued baby bullsnake. He's tiny!

&*(%(*&%!#%. December here in the Northeast may be the warmest on record. The mercury will be reaching 50 tomorrow.

I bought a snowblower, and it is just gathering dust in my garage.

poochies - we've been in a really bad drought for all of this decade. It wasn't until this past summer that we really started getting any relief from it. I'm ecstatic to see this much snow on the ground at once. The ONLY thing I'm not happy about is that they canceled work today. That is a good thing BUT I'd already asked for the day off, so even though everyone is getting this time off for free, I still have to use 8 hrs of annual leave Sad

Wow! The beauty of waking to an amazing new world covered by snow is a pleasure I haven't experienced for many years, since I've moved from NY to SoCal 40+ years ago.

It was a pleasure I always treasured from the time I was little. That's when I knew that I'd be missing school. We used to come up with some great "snow day" activities including taking the New Haven RR from New Rochelle to Pelham (next stop) and by riding on the platform at the end of the car we'd miss paying for the ride and then taking the bus back home. Then we'd play Monopoly for the rest of the afternoon.

What I don't miss is snow chains. They always seem to break and the loose ends would tear the hell out of our fenders.

Brrrr! Too cold for me, nowadays.

I'm curious, do all your snakes of different sizes get along without the big ones devouring the smaller ones?

Thanks for the pics.

Stay warm,

GeneL

GeneL,

I've always loved the snow. Thankfully, snow around here doesn't tend to stick around for long. By Sunday the roads will almost surely be bone dry & by next week, only patches of snow will remain.

As for the snakes - my rules for keeping snakes together is that they must be the same species, the same size and the same sex. Oh, and ones that are known cannibals (like kingsnakes) are kept solitary.

In general, I could probably get away with putting my bullsnakes in with my cornsnakes - as they're all pretty docile and not really known for eating snakes. However, I like to keep them separated by species for health reasons.

Once again, I'm enjoying how the forum allows me to expand my world to places I normally wouldn't have a feeling for.

Thanks for sharing!

What is this "Snow" you speak of?

(Says the northern californian... a "cold" and clear 47° outside...)

LOL Paul!

Snow - you know - the white stuff that tends to carpet the ground. Sorta like frozen rain Tongue

I feel like going outside to build a snowman. This is really wet snow!
