Yeah, I saw that. I was struck with the Capitol Police just standing there kind of passively while the rioters reached past them and broke the windows on the door. And then those police just walked away.
Not blaming them, facing off a hoard of nut jobs working themselves up as they were. But then the officer on the other side of the door pulled his gun and the nut jobs just kept trying to beat their way in as the window was failing.

Me too. The text of the article says that riot police were moving up from behind.

If there were congresspersons and staff on the other side of that window, then the time for giggles and selfies and "shucks, we don't have enough people to stop them" excuses was over.

An angry mob, many armed with firearms, swarming through the last door protecting the legislators within. Let me think for a New York second...would I let them in or shoot?

I’m not being critical; As I watched, I was impressed with the way the officers kept their cool throughout a highly inflamed situation.

You might expect that somebody would have waved a gun on Twitter or something like that if this was true? My impression here is that armed or not, that the Capital police did not intend to openly confront them UNTIL the tactical team came in from behind, while also knowing that on the other side guns were already drawn. I also do not believe they owed the mob any of that basic knowledge, as rational discussion was not in the cards.
Absent any new info, I wouldn't fault this strategy in the least! You draw a gun while within a mob, and you stand a good chance of getting it knocked out of your hand, trampled etc. before tactical gains their vantage positions.
