Music CDs...I have a bunch. What can I do with them?

Give to the GoodWill? Salvation Army? You have to have a Music Recorder to use them Right?

Blank CDs? I was under the impression that the "Music" CDs were the exact same thing as regular CDs but they tacked on a surcharge to shut up the RIAA. Have you tried them in your computer?

IF they are indeed "blank" as ztirffritz suggests, they are perfectly usable in a computer for recording data or music. Just the surcharge add-on to quiet the RIAA lawyers...

You'd only need any standard CD burner or CD/DVD burner.... no 'specific' music recorder to use them - just the CD burn capable drive already in your Mac will do.

Not sure what type of CDs/what the exact question is...

If they are commercial CDs you've ripped into iTunes - legally would need to retain them to be licensed for the ripped tunes.

But assume the music recorder question part means asking about burning?

Yes, blank Music CDs. I'll start using them for my CD burning then....I just thought there was a diff format on them....they charge more for them!

Yeah, there's a special code in them that is required by stand alone CD Audio recorders- the surcharge on them is supposed to offset record label's losses for audio CD piracy (though I, as a working musician, can't say I know of a single musician who's ever benefitted from it...)

But once you get past that code, they are just standard data CD-Rs.

I bought a standalone cd recorder for my church so they could record their weekly sermons and place them in their library. Crutchfield had two units. The $300 one required music cd's while the $600 unit did not. I opted for the $300 and it has performed well. The music cd's have really come down in price. I post this in order to ramble.

This might be something with newer burners or perhaps with standalone burners - but I've yet to see CD media you couldn't burn songs on with the standard burner in my Mac.

Again - maybe this applies to something a lot newer.

I first thought when Samintx said Music CDs that the CDs already had music on them. I'm losing it.
