Let's make this clear about January 6

The Capitol building where the House and Senate are in session is a direct attack on the government. More specifically, a House and Senate in session to confirm the election of a president.

If that isn't trying to overthrow America, what is?

It’s why Republicans will refuse to acknowledge or answer the question. I hope every Democrat never lets them forget it. Just begin every future conversation with, “Given that you approve of insurrection and will not defend democracy, ... “

Democrats have nothing to “reconcile.” I hope they act like it.

You forget the gallows and calls to assassinate the Vice President of the US.

That's the part that gets me. Add to the questions that deckeda suggests to ask of any/all Republicans: "So, tell me, were you in favor of hanging Vice-President Pence?"

Gotta keep winning elections. That's our only real power.

The problem with Republicans is that they never care about anything unless it happens to them. Their lack of imagination is staggering. How hard is it for them to imagine what might have been, if instead of a cop it had been Pence or some other Republican who died? They're all such shits.

This sort of question mirrors the disconnectedness $tevie highlights. They'll note that they didn't personally want the V.P. "dead," yet have no comment about others they otherwise agree with, that did want it. Using pretzel logic, it therefore wasn't support.

It's all about the tribe and the belief that others are worse, which gives them all a free pass. Little wonder they value fealty above leadership and accountability.

True, and it's just so disconcerting to realize that they were THERE as witnesses to the whole s/hitshow. No imagination needed, right? How can they rationalize that?

Real ass clowns, most of them…

Remember, there's also evidence that some of those very same ass clowns were involved in plotting / planning the insurrection. My suspicion is that part of the reason they don't want this going forward is that, in the next two weeks, a WHOLE lot more information might come out about their involvement, as well as Dump's.

I spoke with an old, dear friend of mine (32 years of friendship, including working together at first jobs, and being roommates) earlier this evening about this. He used to be fairly moderate R but is now pretty much regular Republican. I asked what he thought about the insurrection. He said that he did not approve of it, but that the media was making way too much of it and that he had to quit reading the news.

He kept comparing the insurrection to “six months of violence, burning cities, etc.” He kept equating it with “BLM violence.” I mentioned to him that while some of that was not BLM, but it was antifa, a lot of it was false flag right wing groups like proud boys etc. He said antifa was in on the capital violence and I said no way, the FBI declared today there was zero evidence of antifa involvement. He said he does not believe anything the FBI says.

He was having none of my side. He said he did not vote for Trump in ‘16 but he did vote for him in ‘20. I asked why ‘20, and he said “Are you kidding, look at the alternative, things are already going to hell right now.”

And we had to quit talking about it and move on to something else. I decided I would have to talk to him about it the next time we see each other, which won’t be anytime soon since he lives 10 hours away. He’s a good person. So many good people have been brainwashed. One thing we did agree on was we both said we did not know if things will ever be normal between people in our country again.

It is all so very sad and tragic.
