Do folks have local owned doughnut shops nearby?

The KK thread had me thinking that we are lucky (depending on one's health profile) to have so many independent shops and bakeries. The KK that opened here in the 90s went out of business after a few years.

We have several very good local doughnut shops, or bakeries that make good doughnuts and pasteries.
We can barely buy decent BREAD for love or money, but, junk food we have in abundance.

Don's Donuts and Julie's Java were next door to each other. They merged and became Doolie's Kitchen. They've lasted longer than any chain donut shops around here.

Yes, Hero Doughnuts started in BHM and has expanded to Atlanta. Brioche-style.

Daylight Donuts in BHM (chain? not sure) and Sublime Donuts in ATL also rock.

My sister always has a baker's dozen box in hand when she visits. It's about hundred miles from my residence, so it's always a big treat for me.

I always liked this challenge:

They opened a Krispy Kreme here in Little Rock (near a Heart Hospital, of all places) and it was immensely popular and always crowded and it lasted maybe two years. A Dunkin' Donuts down the street from it also went out of business (it's now a Starbucks).

We have a few locally-owned shops that are local chains (not one-offs) that are pretty good for the occasional donut.

Back in New Orleans, nothing beat Tastee for donuts (well, at least after McKenzie's Bakery shut down).

Never did like Krispy Kreme, and Dunkin Donuts are not good, IMO. YMMV.

We have an amazing new donut emporium called Stan's, but Dunkin is well entrenched here in the Chicago area. There are a handful of local shops, but they are slowly fading away.

They are great, but at $20/doz for basics or $30/doz for fancy donuts - it is not an regular purchase.
