This could just be Manchin making sure that leadership knows that everything goes through him. His support will come at a cost.

He's opposing her over the wrong issue, name calling. She previously advocated deep cuts in SS/Medicare funding to satisfy GOP deficit hawks, in my opinion, a more important policy issue.

Manchin could also just be testing the limits of his political muscle. Be interesting to see if others like perhaps Markey join him.

Yes, the far left doesn't like her, but I don't see why Markey would care. He ain't "that" far left.

Manchin isn't conflicted. In his mind, he's keeping the channels of bipartisanship open.That's his soapbox. He openly discusses these things. In '22, We have to preserve Warnock's seat and pick up a couple more Senators. The prospects look pretty decent.
