I pitched a fit before she told me the barber had already had it. That has to help some, but it still seems dangerous. Mom had her first Moderna shot a week ago. She claims she "just can't stand the long hair."

Rationalizing is easier than patience unfortunately.
Maybe there’s a middle ground that lets her get a haircut but with the shop closed off to others.

Has she been vaxed?

Appointments are made at specific times and run through efficiently, so the room shouldn't be packed like a doctor's office (I would think.) The barber wipes down things between clients.

The safest plan is to wait until at least 10 days after the second jab. The charts they showed during the approval process said that it took sometime between 10 days and two weeks for the effects to plateau after the jab. The current debate about the second shot is about a few percent improvement, plus 'durability' according to Slavitt.
There was an article this morning about people shedding virus 6 months after symptoms...I think the 'he already had it' is not the best rationale.

Which would make her more miserable?
• Sitting around home with long hair • Lying in a COVOD-19 ICU with cut hair

Let it go. At some point people need to be responsible for their own decisions. If you have given her all this information and she understands it and understands the risks, there isn't anything else you can do.

Fwiw, people have now been getting haircuts for probably 8 months or so without it shown to be a high risk activity. Masks all around, and maybe double if she can.
