OT: Summer on the Great Lakes?

If you were sailing around the great lakes in the middle of summer it would be cool wouldn't it? Like Mackinaw Island and up into Canada? Like you would need a light jacket?

More than a light jacket. Sweaters/fleeces & jacket.s The top of lake Michigan & Huron can get very cold. The water doesn't really warm up till late summer up there.

It varies, but it's pretty nice. On the water it will feel cooler. I was up where Ford just got buried on their hottest day last year. My car's temp said 103. It was horrible inland. But by the water was nicer. ON the water would be good, too.

Being from Texas you might need a parka ! : -)

That far up nights can get cool even during the summer months.
I've been up in northern Michigan in July and it can be 90° during the day and then in
40's at night - especially if you are around or on the water.


A good windbreaker is a good idea and then something to layer underneath it - fleece or sweatshirt

Gets a little windy off the Lakes. I would say think mid to late Texas Fall as far as temps. Plus you know what they say about Michigan weather...

As a life long Michigander, I have to agree with ArtP. It's best to be prepared for anything.

Definitley cooler on the big lakes, with Superior being the coldest of them all. (don't go swimming unless you like water just above freezing!)

BGnR, MI might have 1-2 weeks of hot and humid weather during the summer. Even less humidity while sailing on the Great Lakes.
