USPS Temporary Rate Increase for the 2022 Holiday Season (via PirateShip.com)
#1
The Postal Service is increasing domestic shipping rates from October 2nd to January 22nd.

Starting October 2nd, USPS is temporarily increasing the rates for the 2022 peak holiday season. You can read the official announcement here (link).

Most Priority Mail rates will not get holiday increases on Pirate Ship

Fortunately, most Priority Mail rates will NOT be affected by this increase on Pirate Ship, so there will be no holiday increase for any shipments in the lower 48 states where you're currently getting BELOW Commercial Pricing rates.

By using Pirate Ship, the holiday increase will not apply to:

* All Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelopes & Boxes
* Most Priority Mail Regional Rate Boxes up to Zone 6
* Most Priority Mail Cubic & Weight-Based shipments up to Zone 6, 10 lb

The holiday rate increases for all other shipments will vary depending on the service, weight, and zone, and are listed below:

I just found out about Pirate Ship thanks to Clark Howard. Wish I'd discovered it years ago.

Just as fuel prices are coming down. These temporary increases typically become permanent. My wife has gone to Calculated Shipping on most things she sells. It wasn't all that many years ago you could ship a 1-3 oz. package for $1.30 something, now it's a hair less than $4.

Been using for about a year thanks to someone's recommendation here on the Forum. Absolutely love it.

The recent addition of UPS rates to its line-up has saved me a bundle. I hope they get a deal with FedEx soon.

To which USPS temporary increases are you referring?

This is the first time I've heard of one, and thought it pretty startling.

I attributed it to the current PMG/CEO.

I suppose he would also have had to get it sanctioned.

Want to place a bet it will spread and be permanent?

I think it's a general principle of price-increases.

How do their prices compare to shippo?

This one has a specific end date so I think we can take this at face value.

Fuel surcharges, on the other hand, sound temporary but never seem to go away.

Prices are not going to come down. I lived the Carter/Regan recession in real time.
