So cruel. Just as the blacks in the NPR ARTICLE were promised homes, jobs anew life for their families the arch demon de Santos is deporting immigrants to Martha Vinyard with no preparation or organization. Abbott has been doing his part too.

That NPR article is heartbreaking.

Back in the ‘60s, Southern Democrats WERE racist conservatives.

And they got their asses whipped. Everything they wanted to do to stop us failed. We defeated them. 1954 to 1964 was a nightmare of epic proportions for them. Now their effing grandchildren are trying to roll back the calendar. They're going to lose this time too.

That faction of the Democrats left to support Wallace or the GOP after LBJ pushed through the Voting Rights Act and other legislation. Nixon and Reagan actively courted their votes. Have to remember he also was a Southern Democrat.

The House voted 290 to 130 in favor. Democrats split their vote 152 (61%) to 96 (39%) while Republicans split theirs 138 (80%) to 34 (20%). The no vote consisted of 74% Democrats.

Nixon and Reagan led the way and there was a general effort by the whole Republican Party to gain power in the South that not only involved welcoming Party switches (Democrat to Republican) but also disgusting smear campaigns against Democrats still in Congress from the South that embraced Civil Rights. Like Max Cleland:

Truly shameful what Republicans did to him.

One Venezuelan migrant who arrived at Martha's Vineyard…said he and nine relatives were promised a flight to Massachusetts, along with shelter, support for 90 days, help with work permits and English lessons. He said they were surprised when their flight landed on an island.

He said the promises came from a woman who gave her name as "Perla" who approached his family on the street outside a San Antonio shelter after they crossed from Mexico and U.S. border authorities released them with an immigration court date.

He said the woman, who also put them up in a hotel, did not provide a last name or any affiliation, but asked them to sign a liability waiver.

"We are scared," he said, adding he and others felt they were lied to. "I hope they give us help."

Wow. This is pretty low.

This is very calculated on a number of levels, not the least that these folks are Black, and do not have a natural community to join (the closest is that there are a fair number of Columbians in the area).

CNN has an odd piece this morning (“The surprising details behind DeSantis’ and Abbott’s immigration stunts“) that includes the following:

For starters, many of the migrants were appreciative of the ride.

Really. Huh. To Martha’s Vinyard. An island, well removed from any family or contacts the immigrants might have in the country.

> : /

Well, let’s be fair. What did the Martha’s Vinyard immigrants tell him?

Let’s see. Umm…well, nothing. His piece doesn’t mention talking to any of them. About the closest he comes is referencing a guy the NYT talked to who was picked up in San Antonio:

It was there that he was approached and asked if he wanted to go to Massachusetts. It’s not clear if he knew he was headed to a wealthy island community unprepared for the arrivals.

It’s not clear”. Well, that’s being generous. Reporters who actually talked to these people say they were not told they were going to MV, and were alarmed to find themselves on an island that did not have the jobs some of them were promised.

Other little bits too:

Are these migrants in the country illegally?

These stunts by Republican governors are built on the false idea that the migrants are in the country illegally. Technically, those on the buses and planes are asylum-seekers who have been processed by federal immigration authorities and are awaiting court dates.

(“Technically”). :RollingEyesSmiley5:

So, couldn’t you just answer your own question, plainly? No. These are asylum-seekers who are in the country legally while they wait to plead their case for asylum before an immigration judge.

There. Would that be so hard?

Maybe I’m being too sensitive, but I wonder if this is part of CNN’s recent push toward both-sides-ism.

I would write this reporter and/or CNN, but I can’t find contact info.
