Copy right and fair use? FM stations vs AM/SW
#1
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use

I was looking at some radio reviews on youtube and several times I hear they cannot play FM stations due to copyright issues, but they seem to show radio performance on AM and Shortwave bands.

Why is Copyright on FM stations different than AM and SW?

Fair use has nothing to do with radio reception. Do you have any links to the reviews?
Oh… this is about YouTube videos. I take back my comment.

I imagine it has something to do with how FM stations cover a larger area and may be more financially able to defend their IP, whereas AM and SW are typically much smaller and just can't or don't pursue copyright claims.

I'm thinking that it really has nothing to do with them being FM, but rather that they most likely play music, and this is really a YouTube thing, that the creator doesn't want to have this copyrighted music leak into his video as he tunes into different music stations risking having YouTube flag his video.

YouTube has algorithms that listen for copyrighted music in videos and will either demonetize or reassign monetization to the copyright holder. It can also generate a warning flag that risks the YouTuber losing monetization entirely. The algorithm can't differentiate between incidental background music and music used intentionally as part of the video.

I’m still trying to figure out what a radio review is.

Someone is giving their opinion of a radio station, and using clips from DJ patter? Using music clips, because that’s relevant somehow?

FM is a Stereo format and can have much higher quality, so they typically have agreements with music labels to fund pursuit of copyright. It could be that AM stations are playing copyright free music.

Getting multiple copyright strikes on a Youtube channel will get it shut down.

There are multiple instances of people putting videos up of things like birthday parties, and barely audible sound from a TV or radio was in the background and got the video removed.

There are people that stream/record themselves playing video games and making comments. They have to run and shut off radios in the game that are playing licensed music.

The link pretty obviously points to reviews of radio receiving hardware, AKA "radios",
