Senate is evenly split again
#1
Sen. Dianne Feinstein has been hospitalized in California with shingles. She hopes to return to Washington later this month. Along with her, Sen john Fetterman remains absent while being treated for depression. It is unknown how long he will be out.

That leaves the senate evenly divided and will mean Vice President Harris will be needed to break tie votes

Wouldn't a shingles vaccine have protected her?

I'm surpised that she didn't have one — especially with her age and government position.

My mom got it and she said she had the shot. I don't know how effective it is. My mother HATED the Shingles. HATED it.

Hated it.

The latest research seems to imply that the vaccine loses its effectiveness over time (imagine that).

I know 3 people that have had the shingles after having been previously vaccinated.

There was an older vaccine that was discontinued about a year and a half ago. It was a single shot, and research showed it prevented a bit over half the cases of shingles and lessened the symptoms for many who did get it. So many older persons may have received that when it was available.

Shingrix was approved about half a dozen years ago. Two shots and the length of protection is not entirely clear yet, but at least 6-7 years. It has been shown to prevent more cases of shingles, and the current recommendation is that people who got the older vaccine should get revaccinated with Shingrix.
