Time to put the ten commandments back in the classroom?
#1
Texas thinks so:

The Texas Senate approved a bill Thursday that would require public schools in the state to prominently display the Ten Commandments in every classroom, starting next school year,

Freedum!

As pointed out below, this presents certain conflicts among the Don’t Say Gay folks.

John Litzler, general counsel for the Texas Baptists Christian Life Commission, told the Senate his organization opposed taxpayer money being used on religious texts and religious education. "I should have the right to introduce my daughter to the concepts of adultery and coveting one's spouse”

Actually, IIRC, it’s coveting your neighbor’s spouse, and/or his manservant (uh-oh), and/or maidservant (uh-oh again), or his various farm animals (NOT even going there), or anything else that is your neighbors.

In this de-separation of church and state, teachers are going to have to walk a perilous line -

Ms. Krabbapple, what’s “adultery”?

Glad you brought him up. A little off-topic, but:

A source familiar with the case told CNN that… modifications to the gun used in the 2021 shooting on the set of “Rust” included the potential ability for the gun to discharge a bullet without the trigger being pulled – a claim which has been asserted by Baldwin, who referenced it in an interview with CNN last August.

…and widely dismissed by the gunners here as Unpossible!

(Much like the inescapably obvious link between guns and gun deaths in our country).

Not really off-topic because the same thing can happen with a penis. That’s why there are Ten Commandments, not nine. Or is it 15? And you know it’s true what is said about gunners, guns and penises…

How do these wise ones plan to explain adultery? With pictures? Real life examples? Looking at you, PAB45...

Whose numbering system do they mandate? Yes, indeed, even within the so-called Judeo-Christian universe, different groups enumerate them differently.

Maybe they should use Mel Brooks' 15 Commandments instead.

of course, they mean the Christian 10 commandments, as opposed to the actual 10 Commandments

English Translation of the Ten Commandments from the original Hebrew in the Bible

1) I am the L-rd your G-d, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

2)You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, nor any manner of likeness of anything that is in heaven above, that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them, nor serve them. For I the L-rd your G-d am a jealous G-d, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children of the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; and showing mercy unto the thousandth generation of them that love Me and keep My commandments.

3)You shall not take the name of the L-rd your G-d in vain; for the L-rd will not hold him guiltless that takes His name in vain.

4)Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work; but the seventh day is a Sabbath unto the L-rd your G-d. On it you shall not do any manner of work-you, your son, your daughter, your man-servant, your maid-servant, your cattle, and your stranger that is within your gates. For in six days the L-rd made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; wherefore the L-rd blessed the Sabbath Day, and hallowed it.

5)Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long upon the land which the L-rd your G-d gives you.

6)You shall not murder.

7)You shall not commit adultery.

8)You shall not steal.

9)You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

10)You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, his manservant, his maid-servant, his ox, his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.

Huh, I though for sure "The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" was in there.

hmmm...I'm beginning to think that this forum is going to need its own version of Godwin's law...apparently every possible topic that is possible to discuss eventually (and rather quickly) turns to guns...
