No one likes DeSantis
#1
As his main competition for the GOP nom collects more indictments and court cases, DeSantis wilts:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has spent the past few months running to the right ahead of his expected entry into the 2024 Republican presidential primary campaign. From signing into law a six-week abortion ban to fighting with Disney, the governor has focused on satisfying his party’s conservative base.

So far at least, those efforts have not paid off in Republican primary polling, with DeSantis falling further behind the current front-runner, former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis was at 28% in Fox’s February poll, 15 points behind Trump. The Florida governor’s support has dropped in the two Fox polls published since, and he now trails the former president by 32 points.

He’s even taken an Obama-esque foreign tour (before he’s even announced), which singularly didn’t impress the foreigners, and apparently didn’t help him in the least at home.

I dunno. To me, the Deplorables already have their guy. DeSantis seems like another Cruz/Walker/Pawlenty (remember him?) character. He’s trying so hard - You like crazy? I’m even crazier! You want bigoted? You ain’t seen nothin!…and it’s just. not. working. (Again).

He might win a primary in Florida, but that’s about all. He should probably save face and say never mind. He could still squeeze out a few years of wingnut welfare as a Faux News contributor.

Unless one or both keel over, it’s a Biden v Trump rematch, I expect.

How did that last one turn out?

He needs an escape hatch.

Will he go the fawning route of Cruz or Graham?

No way he's going to be VP candidate.

2024 is just a meet and greet, he is looking at 2028.

Trump had "charisma" in that he appealed to the unwashed masses with his bombastic rhetoric and he told them the lies that they wanted to hear. Plus he was a "celebrity" and had successfully conned them that he was a savvy businessman & billionaire. He was an arsehole, but he was their arsehole.

DeSantis is jumping in and saying, "Hey! I'm an arsehole, too! Actually, even more of an arsehole!" and is falling flat on his face because he has about as much appeal as Ted Cruz.

Judging from the sustained beating he's taking from Mickey Mouse, I expect this will not be the case.

You know what's weird? There are _no_ anecdotes coming out about his earlier life, unlike say, Ted Cruze or TFG. You have to wonder if he has any personality....

Actually…

“John Oliver went to town on Ron DeSantis after learning about the Florida governor’s bizarre dating tactic during his bachelor days.”
“DeSantis… would tell a potential date that he wants to take her out for Thai food, only he’d purposefully mispronounce it as “thigh” food. If the date corrected him. DeSantis would immediately bounce because he doesn’t want a woman who will correct him.”

As a general rule, I don't fscking hate people.

DeathSantis, OTOH, easily makes my "exceptions" list.
