Active shooter Atlanta, GA, - Captured (Updated)

The shooter has been captured. Only the information below has currently been released. A police press conference will be held later today.

The suspect’s mother has stated that he was unhappy with the medical treatment he had been receiving.

A man accused of opening fire in an Atlanta medical facility waiting room Wednesday, killing one woman and wounding four others, is in custody, police said.

Atlanta police announced the apprehension of 24-year-old Deion Patterson at around 8 p.m., almost eight hours after the deadly shooting.

The shooting occurred shortly after noon, police said. Patterson fled in a vehicle he carjacked and later abandoned, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum told reporters.

The suspect and that stolen vehicle were seen by Department of Transportation cameras in Cobb County, northwest of Atlanta, around 12:30 p.m., county police Sgt. Wayne Delk said.

    of the medical center, according to police. The shooter shot five people, all women,
    one of whom died at the scene, according to the Atlanta Police Department
  • Police identified the suspect, who is still at large, as 24-year-old Deion Patterson.
    They said he has military experience and is considered armed and dangerous.
  • 1 fatality and at least four others were injured, three critically

i started receiving text alerts on this at 1:35pm advising me to shelter in place. I'm in the Riverdale and nowhere near Midtown. My son at work in almost Carrollton fulton county did not receive alerts.

Or if the victim(s) had AR-15’s on their person. We need to arm our medical providers!

I don't know how we'll ever stop one person. We can fight an army, we can fight a rogue group. Anything that can generate patterns. But a single human? We're all disgruntled about one thing or another. We have to figure out a way to help people to not want to destroy one another.
