We are thinking of buying in Q3, wondering whether the new model 3 will bring major updates.
In my view, the Model Y is a supercharged model 3, so I expect much of the series 3 updates to be under-the-hood (well, it's an EV, so 'under the frunk?')
Like fewer parts, less wiring etc.
But are there any major functional updates expected like longer range etc?

Why would you consider a vehicle made by someone who is widely despised here? You know he owns Twitter right?

Tesla makes good cars. Just do not buy their Full Self Driving which will never work right.
Tesla and Space X are two of the most advanced and successful companies. It's a shame the founder is an unstable person who likes to make baseless accusations and get into twitter fights with various personalities. Also a shame he bought Twitter X and his attention is distracted instead of focusing on Space X and Tesla.
Also, at this point, it would be a difficult decision if you buy another EV now, or wait until 2025 when most cars will come with the Tesla connector. I personally would not buy a car without a Tesla connector at this point.

Some mechanical changes are also expected, the most significant of which could be the implementation of a steer-by-wire system, similar to the system that Toyota and Lexus developed for the all-electric Lexus RZ. This will also make Tesla’s yoke much easier to use...
Steer-by-wire systems are hard to implement properly. Took Toyota several iterations to make theirs (and they own most of the patents). It was such an alien experience that they had to invent a feedback device to help the driver "feel" the road, and they "tune" the experience differently for each vehicle. (Sedans get a smoother experience vs SUVs.)
I don't trust that Tesla cracked this problem. They threw on the "yoke" steering wheel with no thought to the steering ratio or driver-comfort. It actually hurts many drivers to steer with it. They make their customers into testers for unfinished tech.

Because seeker does not let other people think for him?
Get the best car for yourself. The 3 will have some minor styling changes next year. The current ones will continue looking & working great.

None of the listed changes would obviously make the Model 3 more useful for us. I do not see increased utility in terms of range etc.
Although we DO own one of the first 6000 model Ys made by Tesla (a car we love), it was really still a revised model 3. Added a couple key features like the innovative heat pump, simpler build, only 25% of the wiring while retaining the excellent drive train.
I have looked at all commercially available EVs, and nearly all PHEVs. All North American EVs are going to use the Tesla connector, but there are some adapters that are ok. But given everything overall, the Tesla Model Y is a compelling vehicle at a great price point.
As for the owner, if I were to let something I find obnoxious in a CEO etc prevent me from buying goods and services, my menu of options as a consumer would be pretty short indeed. Happy to discuss the specifics but on the Other Side.

Anybody can buy, or not buy, any car that they want.
I won't buy a Tesla because I think Elon is a dangerous sociopath, even though he has achieved great things.
I might change my mind, later.
Someone else might decide to buy Tesla because they think it's the best car.
Everybody gets to decide this for themself.

Folks, let's keep this thread on topic. I realize y'all are responding to one particular poster who started it all, but let's not derail what could be a quite useful thread to some. So far Tiangou is the only one to have posted what the OP is asking for, let's see if we can get more.....thanx.

We did purchase 'FSD' with our 2020 Model Y, my wife never uses it. We might try to 'transfer' it to a new Tesla purchase, if this proposed one-time offer will work. I'm far more likely to use it.

As far as I can tell, here's what's up with refreshed Model 3:
1) Some exterior changes. Cannot really comment as this is not critical for my decision.
2) Hardware build will learn from the Model Y updates, including China and Berlin. Will this matter to the owner? Only for potential fewer repairs/reliability. Not a functional change.
3) I've seen no proposed changes to drive train or core battery tech. Shorter-range will use cheaper, faster-to-charge batteries. Longer-range seems to use the same batteries as before. Nothing new I can tell.
4) Presumably heat pump, heated steering wheel, etc will be standard.
5) No sign of ventilated seats, but this has been rumored to be on the feature list for years. I would presume this is not an option for any 2023 refresh.
6) New color options? I am interested, but as a bonus. I like the Cherry Red sold in Europe. No sign of it coming to the US (Freemount nor Austin) factories.
7) The listed steering changes. This is a clear potential negative, but could be a bonus.
8) Interior changes, which could be nice. I have no issues with the interior of our 2020 Model Y however.
