POLL: Rather sit and watch big-screen HDTV or Stage Production?

Which do you enjoy more?

1. Big Screen, HDTV in your domicile
2. Elaborate, high-production value stage production (aka-"Broadway Show")

I have enjoyed all the Broadway & London shows I have seen.

However, a 900' plasma would probably be cheaper hour for hour.

Seriously? That's like, would you rather go to a concert or watch it on tv! I suppose during nasty weather and extremely high ticket prices I'd choose the tv. It's hard to convince the wife that watching HDTV suffices as a "date" though.

Really depends on what is showing on each. I don't care which your preference is normally but if either is really, really poorly done, it's not gonna be a fun watch.

Well, I don't watch broadway plays, but I'll apply it to sports. There are some sports which I think I'd rather sit at home and watch, like NBA basketball.

But nothing beats the atmosphere of a college football game. Baseball is also fun live, but boring on TV.

But I agree... it is sort of comparing apples to oranges.

In our house the closer choice is often "A Tivo'ed current TV show, or slightly older DVD movie from my movie library."

The Tivo'ed show is standard-def and "fresh", but the movie is high"er" def with better sound, but perhaps a little dated. Both shown on the same 1080p 42" screen

Sports is perhaps a little closer a choice than the live theatrical production. There are many baseball and football games that I know I'd "enjoy" more sitting in my livingroom with a hi-def set, than paying exhorbitant ticket prices, parking prices and fighting crowds to sit in a cold stadium and pay for overpriced concessions.

That said, sometimes you DO have to experience the full stadium/park experience.

Another choice... watch a movie in the theatre, or see it on DVD (in high"er" def). For the same reason as the the Pro sports, sometimes staying at home is more enjoyable. OTOH, there are some movies you really DO want to see in a true theatre, and are worth the xtra hassle and expense.

I wonder if they'll ever offer Pay-per-view of live broadway shows in HD?

For a play or music performance it's a no-brainer...the live show. However, I don't think the special effects in a live play of battlestar galactica could quite come up to the level of the TV show.
