We don’t have any pharmacies except one Walgreens for a 25 minute drive or so. When you’re sick, that is important. I hope they don’t close ours… mail order is doable when it works well and if you don’t need anything new soon.

I used to work for Brooks (that became Rite Aid and then got eaten up by Walgreens). This store was about 4-5 other pharmacies in my lifetime, and I’ve always used it.

That's just wonderful! :villagers:

We just lost our only pharmacy, (Rite-Aid forced out our Mom & Pop Pharmacy when they came to town) and I now have to drive to the next town as my Doctors have transferred my 'scripts to Walgreens as a replacement for the now closed Rite-Aid.

Drug stores mushroomed all over NYC for years, far out of proportion to need, as did bank branches. Quite a few of those locations have closed. No more Rite Aid at all, of course.

Mail to our buildings/in our neighborhood goes into the wrong boxes often enough to make me leery of using a service that mails prescriptions, even though picking them up is a pain in the butt, especially now, when I am 3 weeks away from hip replacement. The walking involved in getting to my Walgreen's is pretty miserable.

I think the only time I've gone into a Walgreens in the past ten years was to pick up some free prints that pRICE posted about here on the forum.

Gotta think the recent move to lock everything up due to rampant shoplifting has something to do with this. Certainly that's made me more likely to go to Amazon than a local store that has what I'm looking for behind a sheet of plexiglas and nobody in sight to unlock it.

I quit my closest Walgreen's several years ago. I'm sad that so many have closed downtown (as have most CVS) but that's a much bigger problem than Walgreen's.

retail is hard to support in non-big-box situations now. most retail is traditionally difficult to maintain, but I think the Targets, Walmarts and Costcos of the world have subsumed these smaller shops.
