What's going on in Portland?
#1
My wife and I are in Portland Or for the weekend, or at least that was the plan. We're having a hard time finding a hotel room. We found a place for tonight, but we could only find a single hotel with a single room in Portland for Saturday night. What the heck is going on in this city?

There is a Brewers festival, but I don't think that would sell out every room in the city...I'll keep looking.

I think portland is under served for hotel rooms also. Seems any event that comes along sells the whole city out. I once left a hotel in portland at 2am due to a completely out of control basketball team and I ended up driving all the way home because there were no hotel rooms available between portland and yakima. Long night.

Did the brewfest yesterday. My 12th (counting the mugs in my cupboard). I got there a little after noon, and left about 5:30. Its about 30 blocks, (plus the width of the river) from my house to the food tents in the middle of the festival. Its a long walk back with a belly full of chocolate stout.

I used to do it Friday and Saturday, but family, school, my day job, and my freelance work have conspired with the ravages of middle age to make a two day debauch impractical.

This is the 20th year fro the festival, and it has gotten to be huge.

They've added a day (opening the taps on Thursday this year), and they are trying to make it more "family friendly" (which was a bad idea -- small children in a cage match with thousands of loudly drunk adults).

About the hotel rooms. We had friends stay with us last night, rather than drive back down to Wilsonville and Salem (respectively). We know two other couples -- both from Beaverton -- who have booked rooms for tonight, so that they will have someplace to sleep off the festival.
