I need to rent a car for a trip to the airport and back. parking is too expensive (it would be $15 per day x 31 days), and also my Civic is too small Smile

We need to haul 2 adults (not obese), one toddler + car seat, 1 large + 3 medium pieces of luggage (which we check in), 2 carryon, 1 diaper bag and 1 medium stroller (not quite an umbrella stroller, but pretty small), and 1 laptop bag.

I am thinking of a large sedan, but perhaps I should get an SUV? minivan?

Thanks

Unclear why a cab wouldn't work. How far away is the airport?

65 miles.

Have you considered calling a taxi and explaining what you need? Hiring a minivan cab may be more cost effective and convenient.

To answer your question: Most sedans have split rear seats. It sounds to me like an SUV or minivan is not needed.

Another thought- most cities have an airport van service which is less expensive than a cab and the only downside is they sometimes need to make additional stops to pick up/drop off other passengers. They are equipped to take many people and many bags.

Friends/family/neighbors who might help out in exchange for a meal?

Minivan or large sedan should suffice. Second the check on a airport shuttle service, if available.

65 miles.

Hire a limo.

Enjoy your trip to and from the airport.

Get treated like a celebrity.

The hassle of picking up and dropping off a rental car seems like a big negative.

Thanks all for the advice, but I think it's more convenient with our "own" transportation, you know, with a toddler, you have to change the diaper at the last minute, and I don't want the shuttle honking outside... beep beep

And it's not that short of a trip, 65 miles, I am not sure what a cab will charge, but I guess more than 2 bucks a mile, so it's not that bad to rent a large car for one day for about 100 bucks or so.

I plan to rent it the day before, install the car seat that evening, and then next day AM carry the suitcases to the car one a a time as soon as we finish packing them, since I don't want 4-5 suitcases sitting in the middle of the living room and my son running around.

Sounds pretty crazy, expensive and stressful to me, even with a kid. I always take the airporter shuttle van. There's gotta be a better solution than renting a car.

The Airport Shuttle to LAX is only $40 to my door which is 60 miles away.
