Is this a good deal for this box? It's the one with the coax input. I see that you can get the elgato eyeTV software for $49 now.
Are there better deals around? Should I get the eyeTV 200 instead?

A PC user friend of mine got one last year and digitized all the home videos for his parents as a X-mas gift. He was happy with it. But as a PC/Windows user, he may have a lower expectation level than a Mac user.

I have both, I like the Plextor better.
Does native DiVX, really compact files, really good looking display.
What are you trying to do?

I wanted to use it to supplement my Tivo. Things I might want to take along with me, I could record on this. Things that I'd just watch at home, I'd let the Tivo record.

Great use, you just gonna play them on the Mac?
Then the file sizes can be pretty small.
Keyspan remote works great with EyeTV.

$170 is a good price for the Mac unit.
Take a look over at Newegg. Or, if the code still works, try buying from Plextor's online store using the code DVDDROPIN to get 20% off your order.

Damn, I didn't look at the price!
That is kinda high for the PC version.
