Have you chipped your dog?

little poochie is due to be neutered next month and the vet says that's a convenient time to chip him.

how necessary/advisable is this in the modern age?

Both Truman and Emma are chipped. Be sure not to do the new Home Again - it requires a payment annually.

Avid and CAR are one time fees

but what factors went into your decision to do this?

if a microchipped dog is lost and found by an animal shelter/rescue the org will be able to contact the pet owner. That is IF the org even bothers to scan the imbedded microchip and make the necessary phone call. Some animal shelter/rescue orgs leave the responsibility to find the lost pet solely to the owner. The problem compounds when the information on the chip is outdated.

There is supposed to be a website dedicated to LOST and FOUND pet but I haven't tried to look up one yet.

Ummm, what factors go into your decision not to? Cost? Pain?

It sucks to lose a pet and the guilt you will feel if you don't chip far outways the minimal cost. Your dog is under anesthesia anyway and the pain from a chipping is far less than the pain from losing your balls.

This sounds like a great opportunity to create a master database of animal chip IDs. I could consolodate all the info from different pet tracking systems into one easy-to-use online resource.

I can call it Pet-O-File.

This is what the Internet is made for!

Whaddya think? Is this a great idea or what? I'm gonna be famous!

Cooper dog is chipped, TJ kittycat is not. Cooper was chipped at the vets office during an annual check up. It was inserted with a small needle and he didn't even flinch.

The only reason I haven't chipped the cat is that I live in a highrise and there is literally no possible way for her to get out . The furthest she can go is down the hall. Smile

Mac the cow dog is chipped.

I think Tominator's idea for a pet id database sounds great.
