Still think new features predicted here are coming soon so I would hold off till after MacWorld in SF in mid-January. Would be great exciting news to really make event even better. Would be Leader at his best. Would be big news in media.
It would be tough to hold off on such neat thing though. More kudos to wife. Do not give her a chance to change mind. Be ultra-nice. She deserves it.

Pretty sure I'm going to go ahead tonight with it. I don't look for anything in January (too soon). If anything it might be a storage upgrade (not a big deal to me) or some third party apps (which would be cool).

I confronted the "now, or wait?" question, and found it was unrealistic to expect Apple would upgrade the Touch as soon as I'd like. During a recent trip to the Apple Store, a staffer speculated it wouldn't be until 2nd or 3rd Q '88 before he'd expect the iPod Touch to be upgraded. (unusual, because Apple staff are discouraged from speculating about such things in response to customer questions, when I worked there we were more honest and would say we have no idea what Apple is going to do next, which is true, 0 advance knowledge about product announcements or changes) but based on iPod upgrade cycles in the past, his observation was credible. Since I was there to replace a stolen iPod, and didn't feel like guessing and waiting for several months, I pulled the trigger and bought the 16 GB model, and am happy with my new purchase. By the time you read this, you may have already ordered yours, I'm sure you'll love it.

I haven't ordered yet. My "now or wait" for for tonight. I've got this MacMall sale price for $359.99 that i could pull the trigger on now and then go to bed, or wait 4 hours and see what Apple has in store for the Black Friday sale. What do you think?

If the Apple Store discounts it on Friday, I don't expect it'd be any more than 10--20%.
I can understand the urge to get SOME discount on the thing. At $399 + tax, it's uncomfortably close to the price of a damn Mac Mini! But the price discomfort goes away not long after the moment of purchase, I can almost guarantee you won't be listening to your iPod two weeks from now, thinking "crap I wish I had paid $29.99 less for this thing" (8-10% discount) or whatever. More likely, you'll be spending discretionary income on accessories for it, loading songs and videos on it, polishing the surface of it with that little polishing cloth, or even reading about how to jailbreak it so you can install and use the mail app, and view weather and stock apps, just like iPhone users. You might even have it on your pillow next to you when you sleep, since it's so cool you don't want to let it out of your sight.
The kinds of discounts on iPods you're looking for, for an iPod, aren't likely to be dramatic, unless you're really patient and want to wait for them to appear in the refurb section of the Apple Store online. I tried holding out for that, but caved in. I normally shop in the sale section of the Online Store. But if you already have access to a 10% discount via the MacMall, I predict you won't see a discount any better anywhere anytime in the near future.
I doubt you'd regret if if you got it now. Then keep an eye out for discounts for a case, accessories, etc., you'll be happy you got it.

Four hours is reasonable to wait. Waiting a couple of months for MW is not good. Just buy it. Love mine.

Cool. I'll wait the 3 1/2 hours. Good thing BBC has some reruns of Gordan Ramsey to keep me company (the wife went to bed hours ago). I'll let you know what happens. Thanks!

Upgrades at Macworld are improbable.
I just bought the 8GB.
Love it.
Have yet to actually listen to much music on it.
I am too enamored with Safari.
