A phrase I never expected to hear
#1
I swear I just heard this:

"a crucial curling showdown".

I have to addmire the announcer for not cracking up on the air.

Every time I hear the word "curling" I think of hair.

I have had girlfriends who regarded their "curling" as "cruciaL" (this was back in the sixties) but that's as far as it went.

I was wondering the other night, who was the first person to think up curling and why. Did it just suddenly seem like a good idea to throw some big old heavy round tub down on a patch of ice and then frantically start sweeping in front of it? Who would think up such a thing? And why did they do it the second time? I just don't get it.

Here is my favorite quote from the history of curling:

"Curling is a highly tactical sport." Right.....

Winters are long and dark in northern Europe. Curling fits right in with some of the other traditional coping strategies (despair and drinking).
