I hate Windows!!!!
#1
I'm trying to get a laptop set up for a user at another site. It came with XP SP2 installed, but it still needed about 85 updates. Then I installed Office...another 20 updates. It installed about 20 of them then said that it needed to reboot. Fine. After that the updates fail with no explanation, no errors, no log files...just 'failed'. Where does one start to trouble shoot something like this. Microsoft always seems to throw their efforts at creating tools to recover from catastrophic problems rather than preventing them.

Got a Dull @ work with XP/SP2 on it. Folders refused to maintain view prefs.

Found the solution via Google & downloaded a tiny regedit text file that fixes it. effffin M$ knows the bug is there yet they refuse to address the issue.

guess that's why it's called Winblowz >Big Grin<

I like windows. They keep the cold and rain out so I can work on my Mac comfortably and still see the pretty things outside Wink

OK, I managed to get it to kind of work, but there are still problems. I found this on an MS Knowledgebase page:

Type this at the command prompt:
sc sdset wuauserv DSadA;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)

WTF?!?! ; What the freaking hell is that?!Q? That doesn't tell me anything. It might as well be written in assembly language.

I just LOVE how I can have TWO brand new Dells, right out of the box....
Connect to a server just fine (new Network Place) from one, and not at any price from the other. No way, no how.

Same hardware... same OS... Same updates..
Zero third party sofware (yet).

One connects.
One won't.

Ptui!

I spit in the eye of the Windows "design" team...
Worthless Oxygen theives they are....

OK, making some progress...it is starting to download some updates. It still might fail, but at least it is trying.
