...they're circling the drain. Was just out at Jantzen Beach and noticed the "Closing Store" banner. I've been looking for a decent deal on a 2.4 iMac. They had a floor model "on sale" - one that had been poked at and messed with by every moron that had happened by for who knows how long, not to mention been left running 12 hours a day forever. I checked the info and it was running 10.4.11. All this for the incredible sale price of $1279. I tracked down the manager and asked him if was serious or would consider a cash offer that took into consideration the fact that I could get a refurb from Apple with the current OS for about the same price. Nope.
OK, I did buy a Kingston 4GB flash drive for $29. Something about the atmosphere of a half empty store with picked over stuff laying all over the place made it hard for me to leave without something.

I'll be stopping at the one here in Reno today to probably pick up an iWork '08 Family Pack for $70, hopefully even less, and .Mac for $70, hopefully less. Beyond that, it's pretty much a waste of time. The last time I was there they did have to 23" Apple displays for $720, which is less than a refurb. I just wish I had the budget for it right now!

The manager cant do diddly when they are liquidating. You need to find the liquidator and deal with him. When CompUSA bought Computer City, we had no authority whatsoever when it came to pricing. They live by the "There's a sucker born every minute" theory during liquidation. I would move on or take the Apple deal.

I'm pretty sure it can be found for less, legitimately, on ebay.

Kingston has been selling those 4GB Flash units for $17 to $19 each, on line, with free shipping. I bought 4 (2 orders) @ $17.
Point being that even at this late stage in the drain circling, CompUSA deals really are not deals.

That's less than the 24" 2.4Ghz iMacs go for on ebay, by a good $200+. FYI.

one more thing to consider, that incredible sale price of $1279 iMac may not even have a warranty.
A Refurbished iMac 24-inch* 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SuperDrive: 1GB memory
250GB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT w/ 128MB GDDR3 memory, & Built-in iSight camera; is $1399 shipped from Apple, includes 10.5, iLife '08, and has a one year warranty. *previous model, not the current Aluminum version.

What MAVIC said. I got my dotmac on eBay for about $50, IIRC. Amazon has it for $70 all the time.
