One of my mail folders (which has a number of subfolders) (or is it mailbox? it's the folder I created which resides on my Mac to save mail messages) has gone white (or clear) (not the standard blue):
Should I be worried? It's my business/company mail folder and is pretty important.
Of course, Apple Support has no info on this that I can find.

Back it up and repair permissions? I have no idea! I have never heard of that before.

Short answer:
Based on what I am seeing with my account, a white folder can contain other folders, but no messages. A blue folder can contain both messages and other folders.
Long Answer:
After reading your post, I noticed the same thing with two of my folers. When I checked how these folders exist on the IMAP server itself, I noticed a slight difference. The white folders are not explicitly defined.
In "Maildir" format (which many IMAP servers use), the folder hierarchy is "flat" with each folder being its own directory in your Mailbox:
.Inbox
.Automotive
.Cindy
.Folder
.Folder.Subfolder1
.Folder.Subfolder2
.Folder2.Subfolder1
.Folder2.Subfolder2
.Mac
In this case, there is one Inbox and 5 folders (incl. "Folder" and "Folder2"). Two of the folders have two subfolders each ("Subfolder1" and "Subfolder2"). However, the ".Folder2" directory does not have to exist it can be inferred by its name being included in the folder name for the subfolders.
In the case of "Folder2", since there is no associated ".Folder2" on the IMAP server, there is no place to store _messages_ within that folder.
UPDATE: I just tested this theory. As I suspected, I am able to drag and store messages within "Folder1", but not "Folder2".

I went ahead and added two new folders ("Coreworks - Clients" and "Coreworks - Gears") and moved the subfolders accordingly into those, and then deleted the grey folder. No other problems.
(If I created a new "Coreworks" folder (either "CoreWorks" or "Coreworks") and then moved everything, and then deleted the grey folder, the new and named the same folder also disappeared.)
