Shopping for a refrigerator
#1
We may just pick one up off craigslist, but I'm not sure.

We're looking for a bottom freezer, and no water nor icemaker. I was sifting through sears, lowes, and homedepot.com but only one of them let me search for fridges with no icemaker and it returned next to nothing. I may end up getting one with it and then not using it. We're also looking for stainless.

Are there any brands that are better than others? After some research, seems like almost all of the top brands are all the same anymore.

Why bottom freezer?

They cost almost as much as a side-by-side.

Top-freezers are much cheaper to buy, will be more common in the used market.

Appliance repairpeople seem to hate GE.

About once a month there's one on there that's worth it. Lots of remodeling and building taking place here.

>>Price Point??
Price point of "deal' Wink Don't care so much. We'll probably keep this house forever, as a rental at least. Would rather drop $1k and get a fridge that will last than $500 and have to replace it every five years.

>>Size??
Not too picky about that either

I have a midrange Kenmore, black, bottom freezer, no ice maker. I bought it a few years ago when I redid my kitchen. No problems so far and it is really roomy (although I do live alone and don't need to fill it to feed a family.) All the interior fridge shelves and door bins are adjustable which is great.

Sears was running one of their many appliance sales and I think it ended up running me about $800 when all was said and done (sales tax in Chicago is fairly high). Free financing for one year and the delivery was free after a rebate. Extra bonus- they took my old fridge at no charge which many places still won't do.

The only glitch was that the installers did a poor job of leveling the unit before they left and I didn't notice until after they were gone. Since my kitchen guys were still onsite finishing up the other work, they releveled it for me.

I'm tall, rarely use the freezer. Get tired of leaning over to get stuff out. We rarely eat frozen stuff.

I love the bottom freezer and I'm short. Why should the part I use the least be at eye level? Smile
The freezer compartment on mine has a nice pull out bin (in addition to a shelf and the door storage) so it is really easy to find everything and nothing gets lost in the back.

*blushes*

Yes, I know. It's been doing that for the better part of two years. We have some checks coming in from some work we did for a non-profit... we're getting a new bed too.

And incase the rest of you guys are wondering, it gets loud enough when the compressor kicks in that I can't really imagine a refrigerator making more noise. I wouldn't be surprised if Racer X can hear it when he's outside, parked in his car while stalking me.
