Do gas stove/ovens have broilers?
#1
A friend has a kenmore gas stove/oven in their rental, and there is a drawer on the bottom, but it has no sides and has a formed in the metal stamped label "not for storage". Is this some sort of a broiler drawer since the gas jets are in the bottom of the oven?

My personal experience with gas (other than intestinal, or welding) is minimal. Stovetops I get, the ovens, not so much. I couldn't find the model # tag (must be on the back) so i couldn't look up the manual on-line.

I figure that since I now know which toilet to buy, courtesy of this forum, someone should know about this oven's use.

warmer

the oven itself has a broiler in it more than likely .
But the thing below is the warmer

common to gas ovens - The igniter will wear out in 4 or so years.
Easy to fix. But when they notice the oven not preheating as fast as it once did, then its time to replace the igniter.

Every gas stove I've ever seen had a broiler in the drawer.

Here's an example:

The broiler is in the oven. The bottom panel you are looking at is for access to the pilot light. An electric stove obviously doesn't have a pilot light so many stove incorporate that for storage, or in some "deluxe" models it's used for a warming drawer.

Ok then. One of us is confused (probably me) but here's another example.

I've seen them both ways -

If the broiler is in the main oven the burner will be in the top of the oven

If the broiler is in the bottom drawer there will be a broiler pan in there too

The fact that it is marked "not for storage " would lead me tho believe that the bottom is the broiler

absolutely no open flames in the top of this oven, so it probably is a broiler drawer. I think I saw one like this on a Good Eats episode where he was roasting shrimp on a "shrimper" at sea.

she just wants to do some steaks. I think she needs one of those ribbed cast iron griddles for her stove top across 2 gas burners. She has the firepower for it.
