Leopard weirdness
#1
Address Book keeps restarting itself and won't take no for an answer.
It finally stops after a minute or so.
App Switcher switches icons but not the apps.

And I get this when I start Safari.
Safari 3.1.1 (v5525.18) has not been tested with the plugin FLVR (null) (v0.9 BETA). As a precaution, it has not been loaded. Please contact the plugin developer for further information

I can't find anything on the drive called FLVR which I'm fairly certain was Flash Video Recorder.

MacPro 2x 2, 10.5.2

me thinks Leo is not ready for prime time.

I did an Archive Install and all seemed well. 10.5.1 seemed OK. Perhaps I should step back to it.

all kind of weirdness happening after a pretty easy day yesterday.

Spotlight is no better than it was. Quicksilver seems to be causing App Switcher to mess up. TypeIt4Me 4 is not ready. I went back to 3 and that alleviated some problems.

Windows moving offscreen. Address Book gets hung up after start up.

On my mums iMac Intel. iChat is not showing the buddies list no matter what. Screen share doesn't work (the whole reason for upgrading to Leo for me). Course I suppose that could be a port problem.

Glad I was never a APE user. feh!

I've never had this much trouble with a system upgrade.

vented!

"App Switcher switches icons but not the apps"

What is App Switcher?

"And I get this when I start Safari"

You need to uninstall the FLVR plug-in. Then you need to decide if you really need its functionality. If so, go here to get the Leopard-compatible (ver. 2.6) application:

"me thinks Leo is not ready for prime time."

Leopard is ready for prime time and has been for a long time. Make sure your applications and especially plug-ins, drivers, and other low-level software are ready for Leopard.

"Spotlight is no better than it was. Quicksilver seems to be causing App Switcher to mess up"

Hmm..Spotlight, Quicksilver, App Switcher...

"TypeIt4Me 4 is not ready"

TypeIt4Me...right...

"Glad I was never a APE user"

Sheesh--I can't believe you weren't!

How many other plug-ins, launchers, input managers, make-my-system-crash-like-Mac-OS-9 utilities and other junk do you have?

"vented!"

Thanks for sharing.

Now go forth, do a clean install, and cease messing up your system with garbage.

The problem is not Leopard, 10.5.1 or 10.5.2, but your Mac. You have 3rd party stuff on there that interferes with Leo.

You need to have 10.5.2 on there without the other stuff, and then add it one app at a time until something breaks. It will be the 3rd party app that breaks Leo, not the other way around.

I have a G4, a MB core duo, and an Intel iMac 2.8 all running Leopard just fine, and I use 3rd party apps on all 3.

If you insist in adding that stuff, you had better have a current, bootable, working backup to use when you do software updates. Otherwise you will just repeat your existing condition, and wonder why it happened again.

If you bump your head and find it hurts, do you expect a different result the next time you bump your head?

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
/Library/Input Managers
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
~/Library/Input Managers

Empty out those folders.

I saw nothing in those folders, but I'll try again.
Perhaps it's disguised. I emailed the FLVR developer, but have yet to hear back.

I have the Leo version of Flash Video Record (Videobox), though I haven't tried yet.
FLVR was left over (though I haven't found it) from the Archive Install.
App Switcher (Cmd-tab) part of the OS for the uninitiated and personally nasty.

I'll leav a clean install to a little more juggling coz there's too much other stuff that has to go in, but perhaps I'll try a safe boot and compare to adding 3rd p's one at a time under a "regular" boot.

For what it is worth, Mail.app has its moments in Leopard.

When I quit it, it restarts. Force quit it, it restarts. Try to shut down, it cancels shut down and restarts....

Doesn't do it all the time, but when it does, I have to hit the power button.

Definitely Leopard, and not me.

When he gets back to you, he'll advise you to uninstall prior versions and use the Leopard-compatible version.

Thanks. I didn't know that was its official name.

...or not. Maybe it's time to re-think your system configuration...
