Thinking about getting a new MacBook. Best deal out there?
#1
Always heard that buying through Amazon was the way to go with the rebate but just wondered if anyone else out there has a better deal.

Apple has the free iPod Touch deal with a new Mac but how does paying tax on both a MacBook and the iPod come out?

My needs are not very extensive. Some work in Adobe apps and Quark. I also need to run some PC based apps.

I would be retiring my Pismo.

Student pricing?

That is what I am doing and you get a free ipod touch and hp printer AR.

yeah, you need to be a student for the ipod deal

i bought my imacs from macconnection -- they also have some deals on bundles with Fusion and vista/xp if you need those...

I am a student right now but I have purchased in the past without it. Just go to the education page, pick a school near you and proceed from there.

I have even purchased from a retail apple store without any Student ID.

Apple seems to not care at all.

If you don't get charged tax by Amazon, they usually have the best deal, after rebate, at least for me. The best time to buy is right after an update when you can snag a previous generation at a good discount. That might not be possible right now, but I would still think a rebate deal from Amazon would be a good one. Looks like $1,004.99 A/R for the lowest priced MacBook from Amazon.

MacConnection has some previous generation MBP for $1599 and $1799, but that would still be a lot more than the least expensive MacBook. Here are the MacConnection and Amazon links.

Check out price comparisons at pbcentral.com

Lowest price seems to be Amazon at $1005, or you could go with a refurb at $949 from the Apple Store, or if you qualify for Education Discount $999 which includes an iPod Touch or Nano. MacMall also seems to have them at $1005.

Enjoy your new MacBook!

I have a black 2.2.
If I had to do it all over again, I'd get a white with a superdrive, as long as it was at least a Santa Rosa. You're going to want a 320 GB drive in there whether the stock drive is 80 or 160. Easy swap.

Hey now. I have spent 50-100 times more on Apple hardware, but one little impulse buy and I am a marked woman. Smile
