DO NOT CALL list... they stil call me
#1
I signed up fro the National Do Not Call registry.

I have a landline I have not used much (i.e. there was no phone plugged in, only for DSL). Now I plugged in a phone there and I already got 2 calls this evening. One was from a telecom company trying to sell me long distance service to my home country in Europe, I told them to buzz off since I have a 100% free VOIP line with my parents. The second call was from an automated dialing machine, offering to sell me extended warranty for my vehicle. I pressed 1 to be connected to a live agent, and when someone talked to me, I told them this number was on the DO NOT CALL list and then all I could hear was static for 5 seconds and silence...

So, where to I complain when I get these calls?

Good question. Since signing up, the cold calls have stopped, except for two outfits. One wants to clean my carpets. I don't have any carpets. A couple times I've waited on the line and asked to be removed from their list. Usually they hang up on me; twice they've been downright nasty. The other is some shady lender pretending tho be my bank or credit card company. They're even nastier -- when one refused to take me off the list, I asked to speak to a manger. "Eff you, a-hole!" the guy shouted, and hung up.

It could be worse. You could be getting telemarketing calls in Mandarin like me.

Of course the people on the other end feign ignorance of English.

I think they are contracted with Dish Network, but I'm not positive.

Yep- I had some guys laugh at me in Hindi. Fortunately I know a few cuss words in that language.

In the area of international commerce, it's important to know how to say "eff off" in many languages.

Try to get the name of the company. From my experience, they won't give their phone number.

Same thing happened to me. They keep calling though. Bastards.

I get 2-3 per day and they go to great lengths to avoid telling me the name of the company.

Does star-69 still work to get a number ? usually unavailable though, ad the last time I was geting the "extended warrantee " calls (and they make it sound like driving is illegal) they were using disconnected numbers to show upin caller ID. (was getting those on my cel phone)

When I was getting those incessantly , swearing like a madman threatening to do things they only do in prison (I hope) usually makes them think twice about calling back.
That works with Comcast, too. :-)

Seems to work better when you really sound like you're ready to snap. :-)

The DoNotCall complaint page also asks for the approximate time of the call so maybe they can examine your phone records and find the company, even if you don't have an accurate name. Big Brother watching has its advantages.

I get 3 or 4 a day. Every phone is on the DNC list. And don't even get me started about unsolicited Faxes!
