First of all...yes, I do. Not every day, but almost. I have an external OWC enclosure with 2 drives in it. One is a SD clone of my boot drive and one is an SD clone of my media drive. I also have an extra internal drive dedicated to Time Machine backups that only does files and stuff.
So. with all that said, if I had a hd failure, i'd be good to go. However, if my house burnt down, I'd be screwed. So how do you handle off site backups? I thought about taking one to work, but i'm currently working at home. So that won't work. I have WAY too much to backup online. So what does everyone else do?

If you have .mac/MobileMe you can download BackUp and burn the files/folders you want to sequential DVDs.
If not, there should be some other programs available.
You could also get an additional external that you can keep offsite at another location.

Simplest solution; get a couple of OWC On The Go drives, do a SuperDuper clone to each. Rotate one offsite (friend's, relative's, office, etc.). That way you're covered for catastrophic failure. (Again, see my post linked above. Has worked well for me, and I hope I never need to use it again, per se.)

what kind of machine is it?
i have a MacBook Pro which i use at home and at work. At work I have a Time Machine backup and at home i do a nightly SuperDuper backup.
Why aren't you backing up nightly? Its very easy to automate.

my truly critical files are in Quicken and Quickbooks and those back-up automatically to my MoblieMe (!) account whenever i close them.

Every once in a while I go through a similar exercise, looking for an ideal solution. And I don't even have anything really critical to backup. I mean, it would be inconvenient as hell to lose everything, but far from catastrophic.
Anyway,
this looks very interesting and might be a good solution for many of us.

its a MacPro. Why don't I backup every night? Sometimes I don't have anything worth backing up. I'd say at worst i back up every OTHER night. Obviously time machine backs up every hour. I think I'm covered pretty well (knocking on wood) except for the whole offsite thing. No relatives anywhere near here that would be feasible to go back and forth from all the time. Might have an office soon so that would solve the problem.

Time Machine is so passive I'd be hard pressed to see any reason for not using it as a bare minimum backup plan. And if the once-an-hour thing bothers you, you can always alter that:

Hrmmm...so would once-a-week off-site be good enough using a portable HD? Sometimes I have a lot of work and sometimes it's negligible. Nothing like Zoidberg.
