Yes, I read about that too. Truly sad, when we cannot even have free inquiry as to the preparedness and qualifications of a candidate for the office of Vice-President. Here's Yahoo's take on it: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080903/ap_o.../cvn_palin

Jesus, it's hard to believe this is even real and not an Onion piece:
McCain's campaign called for an end to questions about its review of her background

He's just preparing us for his cabinet & SCOTUS appointment process.

"Hi, I'm John McCain!"

"Good evening, Mr. President. I am Dr. Hannibal Lechter."

"Dr. huh? How would you like to head the FDA? I think you're my soul mate!"

"Indeed. Do you have any chianti? ffuh ffuh ffuh!"

YES, that's precisely why I posted that piece ... incredible that this is happening... true case of "let's stick our heads in the sand and hope this goes away".

I don't have a problem with Palin's daughter. I don't have a problem with Palin herself, even (other than that I think she lacks the qualifications). I *do* have a problem with McCain's camp telling us that we shouldn't be looking into her background/qualifications... isn't that precisely what we SHOULD be doing, not only with McCain and Palin, but also Obama and Biden? Especially if we're supposed to be civic-minded and responsible in our decisionmaking as the American public?

I'm all for checking candidate's backgrounds for issues relevant to the job they are after. But over the last few days some of the stuff that has been published about Palin and her family have are down right spiteful and nothing to do with her ability to be VP.

karsen, spiteful, I'd probably agree with you there. More importantly, I don't think much of it has been relevant. (I don't see her personal family business as pertinent to how good a job she would do as VP.) However, that being said, the idea that we shouldn't be allowed to delve into the candidates' qualifications and backgrounds, that's contrary to the whole political process.

I agree. But much of it has also been relevant and necessary.

Are you saying that she should get a pass on everything because people are being mean to her? Because otherwise you are stating the obvious?
