WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says today’s leaders should take a lesson from the history books and follow fellow Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt’s response to a financial crisis.

“When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened,’” Barack Obama’s running mate recently told the “CBS Evening News.”

Except, Republican Herbert Hoover was in office when the stock market crashed in October 1929. There also was no television at the time; TV wasn’t introduced to the public until a decade later, at the 1939 World’s Fair.

FDR was elected three years later when voters denied Hoover a second term.

Neither of the vice-presidential candidates is a Nieman Fellow. Still, I'll take Biden over Palin in a debate any day.

I am not worried about a "debate". There are much bigger worries. This is the attack dog that dems think is an expert in foreign policy? He doesn't even know American policy or American History.

Obama made a big mistake with this choice.

Funny Seacrest - Love John

No Mattkime - Unfortunately Biden has been good at open mouth, insert foot, from day one, before Palin entered the scene.

Biden's been in the Senate for 35 years. I think if he was badly misinformed and ill educated somebody would have noticed by now.

On the other hand, Palin has been on the national scene for what, a month? and it hasn't taken any time at all for people to notice she is not the sharpest tack in the box.

Many people do see how lame Biden is... Some people see only what they want to see.

Keep drinking the Kool-aid. They are all the same.

I truly do not believe that they are all the same. I truly believe that McCain/Palin is a terrible combination to run this country and my vote is going to reflect that.

I wasn't happy with the choice of Biden but honest to God, I believe that Palin is completely lost in her new position with none of qualities that would help her to rise to the occasion -- and whether I like him or not, I do not think that of Biden.
