My mom is looking for some tires for her Suby. Its an 03 Forester. The limiting factor is that she'd like to get them at Walmart. Why you ask? B/c in the middle of the nowhere she lives, Walmart is the height of civilization.

I think you can get a WallyWorld version of a Michelin M&Snow that would be a good tire for the Forester.
I looked a Walmart online when I was pricing some for a Suburban. They usually carry a made for Walmart version usually that are hard to get/compare specs. to the "regular" Michelins.
I ended up at a local chain store (Belle Tire) as the price was close yet Walmart wasn't (close by that is).
I also just put a set of Michelin "Destiny" (?) M&S tires on a Nissan Sentra (175-70-13) for under $60.00 a tire.

Second the Michelins. I had a Honda Element, and going from the stock tires (Good Year Wranglers, I think) to the Michelins was like getting velcro tires. World of difference.

I hope sevice at her Wal-Mart is better than the ones around
here. She's looking at probably 1-2 hours to install and 1
hour minimum for rotation and balance on every return trip. I
went to Sam's out in about 45 minutes, it was done before I
was done shopping. Nice clean cut guys, no shirttails out
and half their teeth missing like at Wal-Mart. Picked up a
set of BF Goodrich's for about half Michelin and same
treadwear and tracton rating. These are my first Goodrich's
so time will tell. I'm not knocking Michelins my wife runs
all the time and they're great tires.

Here are Tire Rack's recommendations. They'll ship to her door or to an installer in her area. Have her call tire dealers in her area and ask for mount & balance prices. I found one that would match WalMart's. No tax on the tires in many states.

A chilling view of the future of consumer choice in this country... "What kinda shopping ya got around here?"... "Oh, we've got both kinds: Walmart AND Sam's Club..."

I've had good luck with Yokohama and Continental tires too if the are available at a good (cheap) price.
I had some Pirelli's (Scorpions on a older Trooper, Sears had these and the Sears Roadhandlers (Michelin rebadge) too.

I've had good luck with Kumhos from Tire Rack. Read the reviews. Even cheap tires can be decent.

Some of those areas also have both kinds of music...country AND western.
