i thought obama's 1/2hr was great!

i just watched obama's 1/2hr on my local fox channel and i thought it was great.

his narrative is powerful-it truly is a version of the american dream. i thought he found compelling stories of "real" americans to illustrate the policy decisions that he represents.

i also noted the optimistic, hopeful tone of the piece. sure he spoke of 8 years of failed policies but neither bush's or mccain's or palin's name was mentioned once.

fact is, obama has put together a good team and they have run a darn good campaign.

i am hopeful.

at this moment in our country's history, we sure can use a person of vision who can support our better selves.

i am hopeful that obama is that person..

be well

I agree. I believe the half hour spot did nothing but help his cause.

It has been a long time since someone with class was President of the United States. Go Obama!

If I could vote, I would probably vote for Obama- but it would be in spite of his commercial tonight, not because of it. Regardless of his message, and the glossy production, it was symptomatic of an underlying problem with US elections; money. He has raised enough money to buy a half hour slot on many channels, in an environment where I think few people would disagree that the money could have been better spent. It must have cost an obscene amount of money, adding to the ridiculous amount that has already been spent in this campaign. Finally, the whole thing seemed too self-congratulatory, anticipating victory. I hope he is right, but I cannot believe that this will have swayed many minds in his favor.

cheers

There is no one close to Obama in this race.

I've been somewhat troubled by the amount Obama has spent during his campaign, too. However, under the circumstances, I don't think he would have been able to get this close without those huge expenditures. Let's face it; he's just had to work harder to overcome what's been thrown at him by the McPalin campaign. I think both have spent way too much.

His campaign, unlike McCain's did not come from the taxpayers' fund. So he could spend however much people donated. Lots and lots of people made small donations. Of course there were the typical large donations from individuals/corporations/etc.

I consider my small amount an investment. The return I hope to get is Obama winning the election. Which to me is the first step in getting this country back on track in every conceivable way. Including improving the economy and health care system so people wouldn't need bailing out. This should have a much larger return than just taking the money and feeding the poor. I could have spent the money elsewhere, but for me it was well worth it no matter what happens. I'm sure the other "Joe plumbers" out there feel the same way.

I haven't felt that optimistic since I was a teenager. Really, I felt just that young and hopeful tonight.

I didn't think he sounded like self-congratulatory. Granted, he didn't waste time prefacing every sentence with "if I'm elected" but I think it was a given -- he didn't need to waste $33,333 a minute pointing it out.

I thought it was great, too.
