Janet Napolitano

Why aren't the usual neocon born-again evangelical crew freaking out over this one? Don't they know..... ?

Wags... some of us have lives and don't spend 24/7 getting the news.

I think she's a pretty good choice. The only thing I've found out about her that I don't like is her soft position on deporting the illegals that are already in the US.

Wags, if it isn't already obvious, that branch of the Losing Party ™ is being relatively quiet. For good reason. The Republicans are evaluating the evangelical wing of the party with an eye towards kicking their butts out, so as to avoid another beat-down in the next national election cycle.

As swamp pointed out, she's a Governor. They tend to be a bit more pragmatic than the ideologues populating the senate and the fringe wackos populating the House. Her position on immigration is also quite pragmatic, and I for one welcome it. It's time we just stopped the whole hullabaloo and acknowledged that we've got a lot of defacto citizens who work hard and are trying to raise families and merge into the populace.

Sure, there are criminals among them, but just being here should not be a crime.

Here in Arizona, Janet is very popular. She's been a very good governor. The bad part of her nomination (for us) is that our far-right Secretary of State Jan Brewer will become governor. Brewer's an ideologue, while Napolitano is a pragmatist.

Also look for our Rep. Raúl Grijalva to become Secretary of the Interior. I like that!

I'm with you there cbelt3.
A bit surprised though-- this position doesn't seem consistent with your other views. You don't have to answer, but I'm curious as to whether there's a recent immigrant that figures prominently in your life somehow.

I'm not taking a position against her, I think she's a great choice. I was being a little facetious, because of the rampant anti-gay hysteria that seems embedded in the far right.

So I guess you're saying she's a womyn? I didn't even click on that.
I just meant that typically cbelt3 seems to be more to the right on most things . . .

If I read this correctly and Gov. Napolitano is in fact gay, it would be a great move. Let AZ fend for itself after she leaves.

using the word "illegals" as a noun says a lot.
