Sounds like he is not liked but I don't see any posts by a Pete. Who are we referring to ?

"Pete" is, I think, a colloquial name for anyone that the majority of folks on this board don't agree with. Cognitive dissonance sucks, so why not just belittle your opponents?

some forum users come here primarily for a fight. So they get really really excited when they find someone to fight with. And they get very sad when that person gets driven off or banned, and pine for them. And when that person or anyone resembling them appears again, they get really really excited about it and heap tons of attention on their old nemesis because they're itching for a spectacular fight that ends in driving off their nemesis again. So to answer your question, please just ignore any "pete" references unless you're one of those people who would like to see this board be all about fighting. You really don't help anything by bringing it up (I know you care deeply about the quality of discussion on the political side . . .)

Well, I'm with Sam. I don't see Pete posting, but I see all the references, so I was curious. In this virtual world it is sometimes difficult to discern whether you guys were talking about a former poster to this form (i.e. a real person) or some denizen of the virtual world (i.e. sock puppet or troll).

OK, I'm sorry I responded above and fed this thread because I just read the one where this came up.
Sam could have asked her question right in the thread where it was being discussed and got an answer, but she started a new one to push her little agenda, as usual. Bad form.

Pete is in reference to a poster by the name of Lafayette Pete who is/was a mainstay of Deal Mac & AppleSwitcher. Pete was noted for his frequent full blown melt downs and occasional banning (I believe) but he usually resurfaces under a new nick as well as several sock puppets that agree with his every word. There have been a number of supposed Pete sightings here - but I don't know that he has ever really appeared. When someone appears out of nowhere with no previous posting history on the forum and suddenly start posting on the political side then there is an immediate suspicion that they are another regular that is working under a different handle rather than their own. This is when someone like Stizzealth shows up with no history and his first post is somewhat reminiscent of a poster like Pete or another semi familiar voice they are under scrutiny. IIRC Lafayette Pete was from CA (this from the days when DealMac displayed IP's) Lafayette CA to be exact. Our new poster Stizzealth posted a link to his blog in his first post here that shows his location in his profile. It appears that he is very far from Pete geographically and posting from the bastion on liberalism in a place that I doubt pete would be caught dead in. There you have it in a nutshell ... so to speak
