You didn't read the fine print: each cable comes with a free happy ending. B)-
Even WITH that it's still not worth $89.

standard pricing scheme. They make their money on the accessories, not the TV or video players.
Camera shops make their money on the camera bags, filters and whatnot.
Auto parts store chains make their profit on wipers and wiper fluid, stink trees and that sort of crap. Pricing on hard parts is pretty competitive when there are several chains nearby.

While not as much as the HDMI cable. I remember we went looking for some ethernet cables that we needed right away. I think we finally found some at Lowes for around $10 for a 7 footer. Something like that. Ordered a couple more for less than 2 bucks a piece I think from Monoprice.

office supply stores for computer or video accessories are the worst, except maybe media on sale. Some traveling schlub will pay that to make a presentation work. I've had to do it when a client didn't make the requested preparations.
There's that, but the office warehouse chains also know that many times it's being bought/ordered by a company via an employee. The person buying it usually doesn't care, they're just told to get this, that and the other thing, so they order it or buy it at the store itself. It goes on a company card and gets lost in a sea of paperwork. I've seen it happen countless times at the bigger firms.
