With the drop in RAM prices over the last year, I am curious how much RAM Mac Pro users have installed in their machines.
Mine is currently sitting at 16 GB. With the cost of RAM sitting at $90 for 2x2GB; it seems ridiculously cheap.
Select the closest number.

Voted 16 because there was no option for 12 - 4x2 + 4x1.

Predjudism rears it's ugly head. Sorry.
What was the max amount of RAM for a G5? 8 or 16 GB?

I have 5 GB (I GB pre-installed+4 GB added) and I'm wondering if I added even a little bit more ram would it make much of a difference?
My usage is pretty basic, no photoshopping, just surfing, email, burning an occasional disk and printing a photo from iPhoto.
Money is tight, but if another 5GB of ram would make my MacPro snappier, I'd put it on my wish list.

G5/1.6GHz and 1.8GHz 'Single Processor' models had 4 slots for max of 4GB.
All other G5 models have 8 slots.
Models with 'PCI/PCI-X' Slots (also have an AGP Video Slot) can go up to 8GB (1GB PC3200 per slot).
Models with PCIe (PCI-Express) Slots (and also don't have an AGP slot) can go up to 16GB (2GB PC4200 DDR2 per slot).
More memory makes the difference - more than a new Mac - unless you've already got the max memory your app set benefit from (working with big files in photoshop or video editing can use the max 32GB Mac Pros go to...) and you'd plan to add memory to whatever new system with faster cores selected.
Upgrading hard drive setup too makes big difference... good info here:
