As a big John Lennon fan, I do not like the word snuffed. I know he died. Out of curiosity are you John Lennons age, or are you younger?
John Lennon was the Beatles. All four were good. But when I listen to all my favorite Beatle songs, it is Johns voice that I hear.
I saw that Youtube video just the other day of Howard Cosell announcing the tragedy in New York City during a Monday Night Football game.

i'm younger... a late comer to the Beatles. born in 1965, so i missed it while it was happening.
i feel he was snuffed out like a candle... not to offend anyone by using this word.

Yes. IMO, he would have created some masterpieces that may have eclipsed anything he had done as a Beatle.

I had just walked by the Dakota that night. When we got into the apt on Columbus and turned on the TV it was on the news. Weird feeling.

I remember going to Cricket Hill in Chicago for a memorial, a very emotional day. I was in high school when the Beatles came on the scene, I always thought John was the most talented.

Indeed. But the man was about more than music. He was about PEACE. Imagine what influence he could have made on world peace if he had lived and chosen to focus on that. RIP.

picking up on what SteveO said, I think the influence he would have had on the world would have been in the realm of peacemaking and mediation (not meditation). His music was not really all that great, IMO, without the foil and the tension of Paul or other members of the Beatles. Harrison's solo material was the best of the bunch. Again, a personal preference.
The person filling Lennon's role in many ways nowadays is Bono.
