I don't dislike the Kennedys, unlike most people I know. However, I don't think I like Caroline Kennedy's ploy to get a cheap Senate seat.
I'm not down with this Caroline Kennedy Senate seat thing

What are they asking for it?

I've heard a few pro and con arguments for her - some sentimental and some practical
Short list pro's - She will have to run for reelection in a short time and the Kennedy's can surely raise the cash thus taking the pressure off of the DNC to support the seat financially. She is female and would be replacing a seat vacated by a female (although she did not support Hillary as a candidate - that one goes in the minus for some) Sentimental - seat once held by her uncle Bobby and she would be serving in the senate with her uncle Ted (most likely to be his last hurrah) Short list of possible con's - the "didn't support Hillary thing", is from NYC and some would like to see someone that is from upstate. Additionally the question as to whether she is tough enough. Seems well regarded in terms of her intellect (written & edited books) and holds a law degree - but the senate ain't softball and she has not served in an elected office. I say it's up to NY state to decide who can best represent them.

Left to their own devises and absent big names, New Yorkers are apt to elect another Alfonse D'Amato or Chuck Shumer.
It's a state that seems to benefit from not promoting from the ranks.

If Caroline Kennedy is qualified to be a Senator, so is this gentleman...

She's more worthy to be a Senator than Sarah Palin was to be a heartbeat from being the leader of the free world. Notice to the radical: you don't get to decide qualifications, the Constitution does that for you.
You get to decide worthiness. We did that with Sarah. She was found wanting. edit: because it's a fun way to cover mistakes.

I don't think Hillary Clinton had held elected office before running for her Senate seat. She had plenty of experience with campaigns, however, something that Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg does not have.
Woops! It's Caroline Kennedy--she did not change her name when she married. Sorry.

His face looks so drawn maybe just age) Seriously, I think Hillary is beside herself. Carolyn and the other Kennedys coming out for BHO and now for the Senate seat. Carolyn is just carrying out tradition, the family honor. I have no opinion one way or the other I just think there are others more qualified and this play by Carolyn is simply a figurehead ploy.

Y'all are treating her differently because she's a Kennedy, OK. But don't stop at the "dynasty" thing. Take it all the way, and note her political exposure and activism in recent years, her education, her familiarity with political machines, the whole lot of it before you glibly dismiss her as having no clue about it all.
Tthink about where the typical Senator comes from. Sure, some were Governors. Most, probably just rich business owners or lawyers who first served in state government and really knew zilch about big-time national politics before they were elected. |
