It's on eBay; we're being asked the serial. This is kosher, right?

You can check warranty status of the item you are selling and tell them.

I imagine they'll want to verify the number themselves, though.

I have offered it before but after my next set of auctions go down, I will not offer it any longer. There is a potential for fraud. Long shot, yes, but what is to stop someone from using the serial number in an insurance claim? Paranoid? Yes, but fraud doesn't stop just because Ebay says their system is safe.

I was just looking for this today at a Microcenter. Now I have it bookmarked (again).
Too bad Apple moved it from where it was for years. I clicked about 10 times trying to find it on Apple's site.

It's a legit question, to confirm model and/or warranty status. Why would Apple print serials on the outside of boxes if it could be used for evil?

As a buyer I would want to know the number so I could verify the warranty status, and any list of potentially stolen or grey market macs.
