For the first time, Chicagoans with dusty surfboards in their garages or basements can start thinking about legally hanging 10 in Lake Michigan, perhaps as early as this summer.

Prompted by a group of avid Midwest surfing enthusiasts, the Chicago Park District has agreed to begin taking steps to open as many as five of its beaches to surfboarding.

Well east coast girls are hip
I really dig those styles they wear
And the southern girls with the way they talk
They knock me out when Im down there

The mid-west farmers daughters really make you feel alright
And the northern girls with the way they kiss
They keep their boyfriends warm at night

I wish they all could be lake michigan
I wish they all could be lake michigan
I wish they all could be lake michigan girls

Of course everyone knows that Lake Superior has the best surf... http://www.superiorsurfclub.com/

The surf in the Great Lakes can get as big as just about anywhere on earth, large ships have been sinking in the Great Lakes for ages...

I don't remember ever seeing waves of more than about three feet in Chicago, except during winter storms. So think boogie-boarding, not Endless Summer.

Ack! Lake Superior is cold!! I get up that way every so often, and I swear there has to be ice floating out there way past July.

Lots of pristine shoreline though. That makes up for the coldness.

Charlie don't surf and we think he should
Charlie don't surf and you know that it ain't no good
Charlie don't surf for his hamburger Momma
Charlie's gonna be a napalm star

Everybody wants to rule the world
Must be something we get from birth
One truth is we never learn
Satellites will make space burn

We've been told to keep the strangers out
We don't like them starting to hang about
We don't like them over town
Across the world we're gonna blow them down

The reign of the super powers must be over
So many armies can't free the earth
Soon the rock will roll over
Africa is choking on their Coca Cola

It's a one a way street in a one horse town
One way people starting to brag around
You can laugh, put them down
These one way people gonna mow us down

Charlie don't surf he'll never learn
Charlie don't surf though he's got a gun
Charlie don't surf think that he should
Charlie don't surf we really think he should
Charlie don't surf

Charlie don't surf and we think he should
Charlie don't surf and you know that it ain't no good
Charlie don't surf for his hamburger Momma
Charlie don't surf

Huh? I live in Chicago and while I have never surfed, I can promise you that the "waves" on Lake Michigan look absolutely nothing like the waves I have seen in CA, the Caribbean or other warm weather locales.

Can't wait to see it!
